A reading club in English, and a magazine
What is Bookflix?
Bookflix is an online reading club in English and an independent literary magazine. We don't teach English and we don't run lessons: we read books, discuss them on Sundays and publish a magazine, and your English gets better along the way because all of it happens in English. The club lives at bookflix.media; it was founded by Rodion Emelyanov and is edited from Moscow.
Who is it for?
Adults who already read in English (roughly B2 and up) and want meaningful practice instead of a textbook: a real contemporary novel, a live conversation about it, and materials that make reading deeper and easier when English isn't your first language. It also suits people who have studied the language for years and are tired of "topics" and "exercises".
How does a month in the club work?
A new book of the month starts on the first of every month (right now: Queen Mab by Emily Mcbride). The book is split into parts, and every part comes with a guide: word sets with spaced repetition, margin notes, cultural references and context. You read at your own pace, mark parts as read and take the quizzes. On Sunday there is an online meeting about the book, over Zoom. At the end of the month the book goes to the archive, where you can reread it and call a meeting of your own on it.
Is this an English course?
No. It is a book club: we talk about books, we don't "study English". The practice is natural — reading contemporary prose with the vocabulary prepared, discussing it in English with other readers, reading the magazine. Many members are English teachers themselves, looking for a meaningful environment rather than another course.
How much does it cost?
Membership: Bookflix membership — monthly — 15 USD / month; Месяц в клубе Bookflix — 1 330 RUB / month; Сезонный абонемент Bookflix — 3 990 RUB / 3 months (includes the printed seasonal magazine, delivery within Russia); Годовой абонемент — 13 300 RUB / year; Bookflix для учителей — месяц — 1 900 RUB / month. Payment from Russia goes through T-Bank (roubles), from everywhere else through Stripe (US dollars). Join on any day of the month, cancel any time; nothing is charged after cancelling.
What does membership include?
The reading guide for the book of the month with word sets and notes, the Sunday meetings and meetings of your own, every magazine article on the site, quizzes, reviews, personal shelves and the whole archive (52 books). The seasonal plan adds the printed magazine of the season, delivered within Russia.
What is the magazine?
Bookflix publishes an independent literary magazine in English: two imprints bound as one — Bookflix and Narratoscope. Essays, readings, interviews, original fiction, visual experiments. Articles appear on the site; once a season there is a printed issue (the first, "Human Error", autumn 2026: 64 pages, two magazines under one cover).
Is there something for English teachers?
Yes — reading rooms: a teacher gets a cabinet of their own and seats for their students, reads the book of the month with them using the same guide, and sees reading reports. The teacher's membership is 1 900 RUB a month with three seats; every extra seat is 450 RUB a month.
